One of the most exciting modes at the beginning of my amateur radio interest was radio tele typing, also called RTTY. In the 70th’s and early 80th’s it was done using mechanical tele typers, everything printed on paper. Very noise and paper consuming. It could happen, in case of QRM, that some hundred line feeds in seconds wasted a lot of paper. Soon, my friend Harti DL6AUI and I worked on replacement of the mechanical teletyper by electronics. You may find the published article in FUNKAMATEUR journal, issue 5/1983. However, in the past 40 years I have not done any RTTY anymore. Now retired, I have more time for my hobby and remembered RTTY. Very easy nowadays with inbuilt RTTY modes in modern transceivers, PC’s and very performant software. I participated a very few RTTY contests, resulting in enough QSO for my first RTTY award. More will come, for sure.
